Post Re: Preparation: Long term survival supplies for your house
Christy, I hope you didn't think I was insinuating that you were spreading fear. That wasn't my intention at all. I see nothing wrong with owning a gun for hunting, I just had a problem with the way the guy in the video kept talking about needing it and ammunition to protect your food supply. If someone wants food badly enough to try and kill me for it, they can have it. It's ok to prepare for a shortage if that is what God is leading you to do. The problem I see is that many are hoarding food and supplies out of fear. My own aunt bought a gun because someone told her that she is going to need it in the days ahead for protection. I asked her if she was willing to shoot and kill someone, and she doesn't know what she intends to do.

It is difficult for me to buy extra food for my family and myself when I see so many right now that have nothing. I work for the Dept. of Human Services and everyday I see people being turned away. Elderly people who have to choose between their medications and food, a single mom of eight who made $5 too much to qualify for any aid - yet struggles to provide for her family, single people without children who don't count because they just have themselves to take care of, prisoners being released from prison who can't find jobs because they have a record....I could go on and on with many examples but I think you see where I'm coming from.

Yes, Debra, the widow had to be obedient as was the case in all of the Biblical examples I provided, :) but they had something else necessary, they trusted the LORD to meet all of their needs and didn't doubt that He was able to do so. I see more and more in the age that we live in that man thinks it's necessary to help God out in some things when all He's asking us to do is to trust Him to handle the situation. I think it's great that you were able to provide candles for those who didn't have them. I see that as a way that God used you in His provision. If you and Christy feel God is prompting you both to store up food and supplies then by all means do so. He doesn't call each member of the Body to do exactly the same thing. Right now, He has called me to help those in need of food and shelter now, and He has been supplying what is needed to begin to do just that. I may not be able to help every single person in need, but I will help the ones God leads me to.

I love both of you my sisters, and your posts always give me some food for thought and often bring a smile. God bless you both! :D

No prob, Sonshine. Although we, as children of God should not live shivering in fear, fear is not always a bad thing. It's what motivates one take action when confronted with immediate or or possible danger. If I hear a cat 4 hurricaine has my town in a bullseye, I will prepare. I think we can be brave in fear, if this makes sense. Fear gives us the motivation for fight or flight.
And bless you for helping those in need today. I do this too, as many friends, neighbors and co-workers now find themselves unable to buy food, pay the electric bill or rent. When I'm able, I'll catch that bill for them or get the groceries. This is nothing to be proud of, but it's what God "makes" me do.
And as for the supply storage. I buy baby stuff...which I have no need for...but my neighbors might. If some one comes to my door hungry, I'll have food for them. If a greedy murderous person comes to my household...no, I won't let 'em have their way with me, my household or any innocent person on my watch. I'm up for the fight. And yes, I'll shoot.
God provides and protects,. And I also believe that he means for me to work towards these ends myself. We work for food, we don't just sit by the side of the road when hungry and wait for a full meal to drop from the sky. Yes there are the miracles of the Bible where the fish just jump in the boat and the the bread/fish/wine just keep coming. Maybe some miracles happen today, but I don't mean to expect God to sustain me on the expectation of miracles.
I do under stand what you're saying Terri. You are a woman of great faith...far greater than my own. Although I'm a peaceful person, I might have just a tad bit of the warrior in me.
Much Love,
Christy

...one day I'll tell you about a man released from prison who had a hard time making it in this world...

Christy, we seem to think a lot alike on this subject of emergency preparation. I feel a sense of urgency or just feel it`s prudent that I prepare a home supply of emergency goodies ( food and otherwise) for the times we may be headed for, whether they be natural or man made disasters. Maybe a years supply or possibly more of food. The mormon church seem to be a good source for information and food supplies, as their members are told to have a home food storage for their families. Wish I knew someone locally who was a member. I`m wanting to start learning to can in jars and mylar bags, some dry foods to start with. Like you said , as long as you consume it and rotate it all along, what can it hurt.

Still adding to the supply, bit by bit.

Well, my point was, the Dollar isn't dead, the economy goes on, food is on the shelves, and Gold is up only because India bought like 20 tonnes on the open market. 8-)

So the trend is still toward "bunkerism" (my term, lol)? 8-)
